Ilse Gordon is well known in the New York metropolitan area for her paintings of beautiful landscapes, captured in and around her home of Greenwich, Conn., and throughout the New York area. Long sky filled vistas, winding pathways and rocky beaches are featured in Ms. Gordon's familiar and timeless works. The recent works on display includes oils, pastels and etchings and feature some pieces that Gordon did in the Berkshires and this summer while visiting Acadia National Park in Maine. While encompassing the same theme of outdoor landscapes, the individual works are very diverse, revealing different moods, lighting and settings. The group includes both small and large canvases, all of which are beautifully mounted and framed by the artist.

"I try to capture the emotion, expression and feeling behind a scene,"noted Gordon. She mostly paints en plein air (outdoors), on-the-spot reflecting the harmonies of nature. Her canvases portray familiar settings in Greenwich and yet are universal. Her palette is appealing and soothing. Ms. Gordon went on to say, "I try to make my paintings feel like a calming break in today’s hectic world."
Ilse Gordon has recently held a one-person show at the Gertrude White Gallery. Her works have been exhibited at the Cos Cob, Conn., and Harrison, N.Y., Public Libraries, and she has had works displayed at the Pastel Society of America. She was a solo exhibiter at the Empire State Building and has shown her work at the National Arts Club in New York City. Her work has been displayed locally at the Garden Education Center, Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich Arts Center and the Greenwich Library. Her works are part of many private and corporate collections.
Ms. Gordon lives, in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich, Conn. She has studied in New York and Italy. She has been an art instructor at various places in the NY metropolitan area including the Bruce Museum, Greenwich Art Society and at the Harrison Public Schools.
