Shelly Malkin is an accomplished painter and avid outdoorswoman who is also a dedicated environmentalist. She is a trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council that focuses its efforts on international environmental issues such as global warming, clean air and energy, wildlife and fish, nuclear weapons, waste and energy, and health and the environment. The outdoor scenes that she paints are based on her own experiences rock climbing, hiking, and skiing, which provide her with the inspiration for her paintings. Her work is colorful and alive. She has participated in solo and group shows throughout the metropolitan area and this is her second exhibit at Arcadia Coffee Company.
Ms. Malkin grew up in New York City where she attended the Dalton School and is a graduate of Princeton University with a degree in art history. She studied painting at the School of Visual Art and the National Academy of Design in New York City as well as the Silvermine School and the Renaissance Workshop with Dmitri Wright in Connecticut. Ms. Malkin has also taught at the Nightingale-Bamford School in New York. She resides in Greenwich, Conn. with her family.
