Tommy Reynolds

OPENING FEBRUARY 4 - 3PM to 5PM
On display through the end of the month.

The work of Pennsylvania artist Tommy Reynolds will be on display at Arcadia Coffee Company, 20 Arcadia Road in Old Greenwich, Conn., for the month of February 2006. Tommy Reynolds' art is made from letters, flowers, glass, string, wires, maps, drawings, cloth and photographs whose tactile qualities become a reference to the finite nature of this world. His work delves into the struggles of understanding the finality of loss and death. The objects he uses in his art, like keepsakes, are all linked specifically to the times and events which they describe, and to the person to whom they refer.

Tommy Reynolds holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Photography from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and completed his undergraduate work in photography at Drexel University, where he was an honor student, a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and was awarded the Sophomore Book Award in Photography. He is a curatorial assistant with Charles Isaacs Photographs Inc., where he works on exhibition design, digital file capture and collection, cataloging and framing of vintage and contemporary works.

"Just as memories often recreate the past, the items I use in my art create pictures that are tactile visual recreations of memories," said Reynolds. He also noted "This process of recreating has been especially of interest to me, as an artist. The creation process is always a recreation, here of memories, a re-organization of objects for the camera."
