Paige Davis "Between Sea and Sky: Celebrating a Mother's Gift"

OPENING JANUARY 6TH - 7PM TO 9PM
On display through the end of the month.

Arcadia Coffee will hold a month long exhibit of photographs by local Greenwich photographer Pagie Barbour Davis throught the month of January 2006. "Between Sea and Sky: Celebrating a Mother's Gift" is a collection of black and white photographs that Paige Davis has taken throught her life that is her way of celebratign the gift her mother gave her of seeing the world through the camera lens and sharing it with others.

Paige Barbour Davis' mother handed her a camera when she was about eight years old and she has been taking pictures ever sicne. Beginning with a Kodak Instamatic, Polaroid Swinger and other small-time cameras, Paige used theses cameras until her teen years when she showed her mother some photos she had taken on vacation. Her mother remarked "That's it, it's time," and on Paige's 17th birthday, her mother presented her with an Olympus OMI, Paige's first 35mm SLR camera. What followed was a sometimes-loving, somtimes-cantakerous relationship with Paige's mother, their cameras and darkroom. The pair created magic in their tiny basement darkroom.

Paige describes the darkroom she shared with her mother as a speical place with its dim lighthing, chemical smells and carefully choreographed and timed procedures. The most formidable rule of the darkroom was that once you were in you had to stay. So Paige stayed.

Paige majored in Fine Arts at Colgate University
Following college, Paige spent time at the Richard York Gallery in New York City specializign in late 18th and early 20th century American Art.
